General comment about political shenanigans

They’re a bad idea.

Why? Because stuff comes out.

And the consequences for them are far, far graver than the momentary advantage that comes with them.

So don’t do it!

Update: What’s that about? This.

I think people are piling on a bit early — let’s see what the RCMP digs up, first! — but just generally speaking, any time you’re talking with a citizen-voter, what you tell them has to be in good faith. You have to believe it’s true.

Otherwise, you’re fixing to bring trouble upon yourself and those you’re backing.

Update again: From the original article

Liberal campaigns believe that, like the robocalls, the live calls were part of a co-ordinated campaign to annoy their supporters and suppress the non-Conservative vote. The Conservatives strongly deny any suggestion that they would do such a thing, and senior Liberals quietly acknowledge that they do not believe Conservative campaign chairman Guy Giorno would approve any such campaign. Giorno did not respond to an email on Friday.

I’d be surprised if the campaign chairs were involved, precisely because they can do cost-benefit and risk assessment analyses just like the rest of us. (Their ethical senses would almost certainly say no, too; but even if they didn’t, the risk assessment is enough to put the kibosh on it.)
