Reworking history

This is the episode of Murdoch Mysteries that the PM puts in a cameo in.

It’s not bad.

I may actually have to start watching.

  1. Alan says:

That is odd in a good way. He is essentially able to do that as a private citizen. Sure, his position got him the opportunity but there is none of the sense of official-ness like when Chretien was first on Rick Mercer.

    • The Tiger says:

It’s a fun thing to do — as for the demeanour, that depends on politics and playing against type.

Harper’s a stiff shirt, so he needs to loosen up. Chretien was seen as excessively informal, so he needs to look more official.

I like the spots he’s picked to step out — the piano performance, Corner Gas, this, sports events.

Just watched the episode tonight, and I give the PM a B+ for the concept, but a D- for acting ability. It didn’t detract from the show, but I would have been more impressed had he tried to crank out a Scottish brogue appropriate to the Dál Riata region where the Harpers are descended from.

For my money, nothing will ever beat Lorne Calvert’s 20 seconds on Corner Gas (“And we’re a rectangle, Nature’s most perfect shape!”). That little outing should have won him a Juno.
