There’s always a guy that transits the other way, too. Lieberman, Hitchens, etc.
I wouldn’t bail out of the party (or movement, whatever) because the prospective leader is personally distasteful. You always have to measure them versus a realistic assessment of the other guy, not an unrealistic assessment versus the pie-in-the-sky ideal leader you wish the party had. Very much a case of going to war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had.
