He’s ba-aaack!
After a time on the market, with all the deleting of weblogs that that entails, I am now returning to the online world, with a lot to say about North American politics.
So… where are we, now?
Canada: Well… Prime Minister Harper‘s decision to prorogue Parliament has led to the end of Canadian democracy.
Meanwhile, Dion’s Ignatieff’s leadership numbers have slipped below Layton’s. Last time that happened to a Liberal leader, the Tories came oh-so-close to a majority government in our fractured five-party-system.
My prediction?
USA: Some of us have been having fun at Tea Party protests –
And there are foreign policy issues these days… (Seriously. I’m more than a little worried. It’s whack.)

But we are blessed. I am blessed — blessed by membership in two of the most prosperous, good societies ever to exist on this planet, the United States and Canada. [Two children of the same mother -- not sure how far I can separate them, really.]
And I enjoy talking about them.
So here we go.

Same mother true – but I don’t think it is Britain.
Canada and America’s shared mother is the New World.
America’s father is Britain.
Canada’s father is ancien regime France – but he was a dead-beat who left us without paying child support, and now he’s disappeared. We (Canada) ended up being adopted by our half-brother’s father – Uncle Britain, and when he died, our big brother took us under his wing, which we still sometimes resent, but it works out.
